Rye and Beyond: The Poetry of Jessie Haig Herlihy

This short film project features poetry from Rye and Beyond: The Poetry of Jessie Haig Herlihy. Jessie’s poetry book was published in 1990 and includes twelve poems about Rye inspired by the poet’s reading of: History of Rye, NH by Langdon Parsons, 1905. This film, made in 2020, was photographed, edited and narrated by Jessie’s granddaughter, filmmaker, Deirdre Herlihy.

The poetry book was published by the Rye Historical Society which Jessie Herlihy founded in 1976. Also are included poems of her travels and those of a personal nature. The book is available from the Rye Public Library and for sale for $6 from the Rye Town Museum, which is open on request year round.

Rye Civic League

In December 2021 the Rye Civic League added a video component to its monthly Civic News E-newsletter. It includes the Top Ten political events of the previous month as well as a short history talk by Alex Herlihy at different sites around town. The history section is always the second half of the video.
